Why I started BE

01 / The beginning

The community
I wanted to build.

I created Becoming Excellence because I wanted to build the type of organization I wish I had experienced throughout college—one where membership provides real value.

For me, that means helping students develop professionally, personally, and socially while creating a strong community for students who may not always see themselves represented or supported in those spaces.

I want members to leave college feeling prepared: able to communicate confidently, present themselves professionally, navigate everyday responsibilities, and take advantage of opportunities. I also want them to leave with meaningful relationships and the confidence to be themselves.

BE intentionally centers the experiences, culture, development, and success of Black students while remaining open to all Troy students who support our mission. Students don’t need to have everything figured out to belong.

Whether we’re building a LinkedIn profile, learning practical life skills, serving our community, or simply spending time together, the purpose stays the same: helping each other grow.

In the founder’s words

“Excellence isn’t a destination or expectation of perfection; it’s the commitment to keep developing into the best version of yourself.”

02 / What grounds us

Three pillars.
A shared purpose.

01

Development

Build practical skills, confidence, and the preparation to succeed during college and beyond.

02

Community

Create genuine relationships and a respectful, welcoming place where students can be themselves.

03

Service

Put growth into practice by supporting others and contributing to our campus and surrounding community.

03 / Beyond the beginning

Built to be
passed forward.

I’m building BE to be sustainable after I graduate in Spring 2027. I want future leaders to inherit a clear structure, useful resources, and programs they can continue improving.

If BE succeeds at Troy, I want to remain involved in supporting its growth and explore what it could become on other campuses. Troy comes first: a strong foundation, meaningful member experiences, and an organization that continues to serve students.
